Television provides the best and the easiest way to entertainment. With a number of channels fighting over TRP’s, an audience is profiting for they get to watch the best shows on their television. Technology is helping many directors to come up with interesting stories and screenplay that is catching the attention of the viewer. However, there are few good series that made into the top 5 category that really left a lasting impression on the viewer. Every series ran for few years before they ended. Every season was wonderful and asked for more from audience point of view.

1. Planet Earth – 2006

The most expensive television show to air in the year 2006 by BBC, Planet Earth received all the accolades from different critics of the television industry. The show became the first series to air in high definition video format. It took over 5 years for BBC to complete the series that had just 11 episodes. The show provided insight into our planet. Every episode covered different habitats and biome on Earth. This includes capturing polar, mountain, cave, desert, fresh water, forest, ocean and seas. Every episode was followed with a 10 min featurette that talked about the challenges they faced in filming the episode. The series provided good entertainment apart from being educational. It helped every individual to understand about different biomes on Earth.

2. The Wire – 2002

The show provides an insight into the drug culture in and around Baltimore city. The entire plot revolves around every individual who is involved in the chain of the drug-hit lifestyle in the city. Dealers, cops, junkies and politicians play a major involvement in the city’s drug scene. The show reached a new height when it caught the attention of the viewer. All thanks to the powerful storyline and a great entertainment that was filled with excitement and thrill. Lt. Cedric Daniels and drug dealer Barksdale are the characters to which the entire story revolves around and displays the frustration, eager and commitment.

3. Breaking bad – 2008

The show was well received by audiences for it provides a great insight into life. The plot opens up with a chemistry teacher being diagnosed with type III cancer. In order to secure the future of his family, the teacher decides to take the path of crime to make fast money. He begins the new career with determination and commitment. He manufactures methamphetamine with the help from his former student. The storyline revolves around the effect of fatal disease on a hardworking man and the transformation it causes in the person. The show won 37 awards, nominated for 4 Golden Globe awards along with 98 nominations in different categories.

4. Dexter – 2006

Dexter is a blood spatter analyst working for Miami Metro Police Department. However, he takes a new role by night – a serial killer. Unlike a regular serial killer, Dexter has a unique way of selecting people to kill – a moral code. His adopted father, late Harry, taught the code to him. The series is a wonderful portray of a character that lives by moral code and follows the footsteps of a father who is a cop. The show is currently running for the last season after a successful start in the year 2006. Michael C Hall portrays the role of dexter and fits perfectly for the role. 5. Life – 2009

BBC crewmembers explain in detail about the life in the wild. They move from one location to another to capture different life forms. They are covering the entire wildlife in 10 episodes. The series also describes in detail about the challenges that the team had to undergo to capture and record some of the exquisite wild beauty. Other area of interest of the team is to capture plants, animals, invertebrates, vertebrates, and primates. The show provides an entertaining activity to watch, learn and understand the entire biological subject on our earth.

There are many televisions shows running on different channels. Watching a series or a show depends on an individual’s taste.
